The Ladon Legacy – Chapter 48

Welcome to Chapter 48 of the Ladons! It’s a long one so grab a cuppa! What happened when Dorian threw the apple into the caldron? Time to find out :)

Dorian: What happened! Where are we?

Oscar: I told you not to touch the potion, we could be anywhere!

Simon: Holly pinch me, I must be dreaming.

Dorian: Oscar? Where are you going?

Oscar: Can’t you feel the magic in the air? I think we must have been transported when you put that apple in my potion. I’m going to look around for somewhere to sleep.

Luckily due to his scout training Dorian was well prepared for a night under the stars and got everyone settled in sleeping bags.

Dorian: First we rest, tomorrow we find out what kind of mess you got us into.

Holly: I think YOU got us in the mess Dorian!

As the Ladons slept visitors arrived.

Belial: I don’t like it Athentia! What if they are hers?

Athentia: Calm yourself dark one these children will lead us from the dark.

Ingrid: What must we do?

Athentia: They must be protected until they are ready.

Belial: Ugh! Always with the protecting! What is it with you oracles!

Ingrid: One of them is waking up!

Belial: Athentia, please let us leave this place. It is too close to her lair she will know we are here.

Athentia: We are safe here. It is forbidden for me to interfere with fate and this is what should be.

Ingrid: Welcome stranger.

Oscar: Hi, urm thanks. Where are we?

Belial: Huh! He doesn’t even know where we are! I don’t hold much hope for this lot!

Ingrid: You are in the magic realm. I sense you are gifted with magic, have you heard of this place?

Oscar: Oh my! Yes, my girlfriend has spoken of the magic realm, she is a fire sprite. Lilly. Lilly Rose.

As morning arrived Belial and Athentia left Ingrid to watch over the Ladons

Ingrid: I need to go and discuss your arrival with the council our world is not a good place to be right now. Take this, it’s not much but it will keep you warm and fed till I return at nightfall. Just don’t leave the site!

Simon: Did you see that woman! She has a tail!

Dorian: Lets go speak to Oscar, find out what is going on.

Holly: So what’s going on Oscar? Where are we?

Oscar: Magic Realm. Ingrid, uh the lady with the tail, will be back tonight to explain more. But she gave us this fire pit!

Holly: But we have no chairs!

Oscar: Hmm I think I can fix that. Give me a hand with these rocks.

Dorian: So we are going to sit on rocks? Great plan bro.

Oscar: Just wait.

Simon: Oh, so you are going to make the grass sparkle while we sit on rocks. Give it up Oscar.

Oscar: There! Chairs!

Holly: Awesome!

Dorian: That’s amazing! I take it all back, you are truly gifted!

Simon: Gifted my left armpit! And what are we going to eat may I ask?

Oscar: Well you could be pleased.

Oscar: wait Simon! We are supposed to stay here. You don’t know what’s out there!

Simon: Fish is what is out here and I for one don’t want to starve!

Once Simon arrived at a nearby lake he calmed a little. Just enough to realise that he didn’t know what dangers might be lurking in the strange trees.

Simon: Lions and tigers and bears – oh my!

Dorian: Hey look what we uncovered! A fountain! At least we have fresh water!

Holly: I wouldn’t touch that Dorian. Let’s speak to Ingrid first.

Oscar: So you’re back then?

Simon: yeah, sorry. You did a great job; I’m just a bit edgy being here.

Oscar: Well Ingrid is back.

Simon: Did you bring your own chair?

Ingrid: No, the fire pit is enchanted to produce a chair when you need it. Although I see you brought your own?

Simon: great job Oscar hahaha!

Oscar: Ahem. So Ingrid, what’s up? You look troubled?

Ingrid: You have arrived at a time of great turmoil for our world. The Oracles, you met one of them, Athentia, have prophesised that you four will bring an end to the rule of the Red Queen.

Simon: Who is this Red Queen?

Ingrid: Let me explain..

Ingrid: Our world was ruled by Queen Alice. She was a great ruler fair, honest and kind. She could always be found with her faithful familiar Rufus at her side.

Ingrid: She was a big part of the community and much loved by all.

Ingrid: Queen Alice was engaged to Nathaniel Hallow prince of Bats. But he was brainwashed by the Red Queen into luring Queen Alice to the consignment store where she was waiting.

Ingrid: Queen Alice had no idea what danger she was in when she chatted to the woman at the cash register.

Ingrid: That woman was the Red Queen. Queen Alice has not been seen since. In his despair at his part in her abduction, Nathanial changed into bat form and fled to the forest.

Ingrid: The Red Queen cloned Queen Alice to create an evil Alice army, backed up by lost souls she had raised from the depths of the copper mines. She proceeded to visit local businesses, claiming them as her own.

Ingrid: The Red Queen has been in power now for nearly a year.

Holly: So how are we supposed to help?

Ingrid: I don’t know. I just know that I must keep you safe.

Oscar: I hear something.

Oscar: Wait here while I go check it out.

Ingrid: Wait! You mustn’t go out there.

Oscar: If we are the chosen ones then nothing is going to happen right?

Ingrid: Oscar come back!

Oscar spotted strange lights in the forest. As he got closer the noise got louder.

As he reached the lights he realised that they were singing. He reached out to touch them.

Oscar: what are you?

The singing stopped and was replaced by a twinkling sound as the lights buzzed around his head then vanished.

Oscar hurried back to tell Ingrid.

Ingrid: Those were pixies, nasty little creatures. Did they bite you?

Oscar: No why?

Ingrid: Their venom will send you mad before it takes your life. You were lucky. There are many things that are dangerous here; you must be on your guard.

Holly: What do we do now? We can’t just sit here and wait to be killed!

Ingrid: The fountain you uncovered is very special. While untouched it will protect its land and those on it, you were lucky to have found this spot. Just don’t drink from it. Doing that will break the protection.

Ingrid: Morning is coming and there is much for me to do. I wish I could help you more.

Simon: I just want to go home Dorian! I miss Peanut and Mum and Dad. I even miss school!

Dorian: I wish we could go back too but until we find a way we are stuck here. I’m sorry Simon.

Ingrid had just left the Conjour household after discussing the new arrivals.

Vamp Ghost 1: I just don’t think we should get involved! I know what the prophecy says but we are the last of the vampire ghosts and I don’t want to risk our race being wiped out.

(I’m sorry Pylia! I forgot to write down their names :$)

Vamp Ghost 2: Well I can’t just sit by and do nothing! I’m going to ask our friends for help.

Violet: Lilly! I’ve got a message from the Conjours! Oscar is here!

Lilly: How could this happen! Does it say where?

Violet: Sorry no. Apparently they are part of the prophecy and their location is guarded.

Lilly: They?

Violet: Yes, he has his brothers and sister with him.

Lilly: I must find him! I’ll work on a spell to take me to him. Violet please let me know if you hear anything else.

Lileth: Mum! I have news!

Ebony: Calm yourself child. What is it?

Lileth: There are Ladon’s here.

Ebony: Well duh! That is us! I really do think that bringing you back affected your mind.

Lileth: No not us! Sophia’s children!

Ebony: Oh my! Where?

Lileth: They are camping at Fountain Grove. Ingrid told me as she knew they were family.

Ebony ran to the Grove to check on her family.

Dorian: Great Granny? What are you doing here?

Ebony: We magical folk can cross between the realms. I come here often to see my daughter as she is not able to exist in the mortal realm.

Oscar: Why is that?

Lileth: Because I died in the mortal realm my spirit can no longer exist there. Mother gave me new life here when she realised my spirit had not fully crossed over.

Oscar: But what about ghosts? They are dead?

Lileth: Yes that is because they never left. I was stuck halfway between the mortal realm and the afterlife.

Holly: Wow your wings are awesome!

Simon: So what do we do Granny?

Ebony: I don’t know. I must consult the oracles.

Ebony: Elvira it’s been too long.

Elvira: I know why you are here. You had best come in.

Ebony: Please you must send them home!

Elvira: Child, you know it is not our place to interfere with such matters.

Ebony: But they are my family! They are in danger!

Elvira: Come sit a while. Let us talk.

Elvira: Oh my!

Ebony: What! What is it?

Elvira: War is coming. Soon.

Lileth: Then we must do what we can to protect our kin. Mother, we must speak with the council.

Lilly: I’ve found him!

Violet: The transport potion is ready. Good luck sister.

Oscar: What the…

Oscar: Lilly!

Lilly: I heard you were here but they wouldn’t tell me where!

Oscar: How did you find me?

Lilly: Because of our bond I was able to trace you then my sister created a transportation potion to get me here.

Dorian: Oscar? Is that your girlfriend? Why does she have wings?

Lilly: Hi Dorian, yes it’s me. I am a Fire Sprite when in the mortal realm our wings are cloaked by magic.

Dorian: And you knew this Oscar?

Oscar: Yeah, I think her wings are hot!

Luna: Sisters the air is changing.

Athentia: I feel it to.

Elvira: I had a vision; the war will soon be upon us.

Athentia: Then we must step back and let fate take its course.

Lilly took the Ladon’s to her home to discuss how to get them home.

Violet: Hey so you must be Simon!

Simon: Yeah and what are you supposed to be?

Violet: I’m Violet, Lilly’s sister I’m an Earth Sprite.

Dorian: So Cherry, do you think you can help us get home?

Cherry: We will do our best but it may take some time.

Holly: Hey look I made it work!

Oscar: So what do you see?

Holly: Us, all of us. We are fighting.

Oscar: Then we are not going home.

Simon was oblivious to the goings on around him as he and Violet got better acquainted.

Dorian: This is all you’re doing. If Oscar hadn’t met you he wouldn’t be playing with all this magic nonsense and we would be safe at home right now!

Lilly: And maybe you should learn to leave your brothers things alone!

Simon: So you live in the mortal realm too?

Violet: Oh yes, maybe we could go out sometime?

Simon: Like on a date?

Simon: I’d like that.

Dorian: Simon! We’re leaving!

Simon: Bye toots!

Simon: I don’t see what the big fuss is about this fountain. It’s just water for plumbobs sake!

Simon: See drunk it and nothing happened. No earthquake, no bolt of lightning. Silly superstitious nonsense!

But elsewhere the Red Queen felt a change in the world.

Red Queen: There are mortals here! No silly prophecy is going to stop me!

Dorian: One simple thing! Don’t drink from the fountain. So what do you do?

Simon: Drink from the fountain?

Dorian: Yes! Drink from the fountain! Now we won’t speak of this and hopefully we will get lucky. But just you watch yourself from now on.

Red Queen: Alice’s! There are mortals in my land go seek them out!

Alice Army: Yes mistress.

Red Queen: Lost Souls! You will go to town and find out what you can from those pathetic residents.

Lost Souls: Yes Mistress

Red Queen: I’m going to check on our guest.

Red Queen: Hmm my poor plant, I have been neglecting you, however I see you have eaten well.

Red Queen: So Alice, how are you enjoying your stay?

Red Queen: Mortals have arrived in my little world. If you think they will rescue you, you are very much mistaken.

Queen Alice: You will not last much longer evil hag! Folk are loyal to me, they will find me! And when they do..

Red Queen: What will they do? They are week minded imbeciles!

Red Queen: And you will learn to hold your tongue!

Red Queen: That’s right Alice. Bow to your Queen!

Elvira: Greetings sister, where is Luna?

Athentia: The young boy drank from the fountain. Luna went to warn them that the Red Queen has noticed their presence.

Elvira: The spirit of the moon within her makes her foolish!

Luna: I shouldn’t be here but for all our sakes I had to warn you. The Red Queen knows you are here. This place no longer offers protection, you must leave.

Simon: But where will we go?

Luna: That is not my concern.

Belial: There is a council meeting tomorrow at the enchanted glade. You will all attend.

Oscar: We have lost our protection, is there somewhere we can stay tonight?

Belial: No. It is too late to make arrangements.

Dorian: Ok guys, you sleep I’ll take first watch. Holly will take second and Oscar third.

Simon: What about me?

Dorian: You can’t be trusted right now Simon.

Oscar: I can’t believe you didn’t tell us about Simon drinking the water! We could have found somewhere safe to stay!

Dorian: I’m doing my best here Oscar!

As soon as morning arrived they all headed to the Enchanted Glade.

Dorian: I think we are a bit early. Did you get a time Oscar?

Oscar: Ah, no. Forgot to ask.

Holly: Well it’s a nice day and such a beautiful place; let’s just wait here for someone to turn up.

Mrs Cupid: Well you must be the Ladon children I’ve heard so much about. Nice to see you are punctual. Everyone should be arriving soon, it is nearly dusk.

Belial: Ok if everyone is here we shall begin.

Simon: Uh, guys! I think we have a problem.

Evil Alice: I have found the mortals! Mistress will reward me greatly.

Belial: So the time is now.

Natalie: Ha I love a good fight! Come here girlie!

Lost Soul: You and your kin shall perish and my Mistress will rule without fear!

Oscar: Oh, so she is scared of us is she?

Lost Soul: You will pay for your words boy!

Dorian: Help!

So the battle began, spells and curses flying through the night like fireworks. Those who had no magical ability kicked and punched trying to make them lose their aim.

Simon: I think we have a bigger problem.

Lileth: You will pay for your evil ways clone!

Evil Alice: Not if I get you first dead girl!

Oscar: Lileth what do we do?

Lileth: You must distract the Red Queen while I work a spell. Do you think you can manage it?

Oscar: I won’t let you down.

Oscar: Listen here you swamp breathed freak! You leave us alone!

Red Queen: You insolent runt! You will pay for your… what the…

Lileth cast her spell producing a blinding light that grew steadily larger.

As the light reached the evil beings they began to fall.

One by one they perished

...

The light grew bright like day.

Red Queen: You won’t catch me with your silly parlour tricks! Come minion!

The remaining Lost Soul ran towards his mistress

Lilly: Cowards! Come back here and fight!

Simon: Someone stop them they are getting away!

Oscar: Leave it to me!

Oscar closed his eyes and reached inside himself gathering all his magic.

With hands outstretched he shot a bolt of electricity towards the fleeing pair.

And killed them both.

Arlene: Well, that was easy!

Jarred: This calls for a party!

That night the town celebrated their new found freedom.

Oscar: But what of Queen Alice?

Athentia: Unfortunately she may never be found.

Oscar: So we failed.

Athentia: No child. The people of this town are now free. Freedom is never a failure.

The town were enjoying the celebration

In his excitement at being alive, Simon had asked Violet to be his girlfriend.

Holly: So how are we to get home?

Vamp Ghost: These things have a way of working out. There must be a reason for you to still be with us. Maybe there is more for you to do here.

Although many questions remained unanswered they partied on through the night.

It was daylight when the Ladon’s finally headed back to their campsite.

Holly: Wow, what is this place?

Dorian: Listen I hear a dog whimpering. Let’s go check it out.

Dorian: Hello puppy, what’s the matter fella?

Holly: Dorian, what is that thing?

Dorian: Wow! I’ve heard of these, don’t touch it. Cow plants will eat you and spit out the bones.

Holly: Eww! Looks like it has already eaten.

Holly: Wait here I’ll go find the others.

Simon: Hello. Do I see cake?

Holly: Simon don’t touch it!

Dorian: So what is this place?

Oscar: That wall is enchanted; the markings are a spell to prevent people from entering.

Holly: Maybe we should leave.

Simon: I think I have an idea. Oscar do you think you can break the enchantments?

Oscar: If I can get close enough, yeah.

Simon: Ok I’ll go keep the other cow plant busy, Holly you take this one.

Holly: He he! This is quite fun!

Dorian: I’ll go back up to the road and keep a look out.

Oscar worked on breaking the enchantments.

Oscar: Hey guys! I’ve done it.

Holly: OMG! Is that who I think it is?

Queen Alice: Please you must run the Red Queen could be back any minute!

Holly: You don’t need to worry about her anymore your majesty.

Queen Alice: Oh that is wonderful! Please call me Alice child.

Dorian: The gate is locked, I can’t see a keyhole.

Oscar: Leave it to me

Oscar approached the magic book and searched for a release spell

Oscar: I’ve got it!

Queen Alice: Thank you! How can I ever repay you?

Oscar: We are just glad to have helped.

Queen Alice: So how did you find me?

Dorian: I heard this dog as we were passing. If it wasn’t for him we would never have found you.

Queen Alice: Rufus! Oh how I’ve missed you!

Oscar: Hey! I think I may have found our way home!

Oscar: Alice, may I have this cauldron?

Queen Alice: Of course, it belonged to the Red Queen take whatever you want from this place. I would rather never see it again.

So Oscar took the cauldron and some magic books back to camp.

Oscar was out finding ingredients for his potion when he bumped into Ingrid and Cupid.

Ingrid: Well you all did better than I expected!

Oscar: Thank you. For everything. I just have to find some quartz and we can be heading home.

Ingrid: That is good news. Lilly is inside, I think she would like to talk to you.

Oscar: Hey Lilly, what’s the matter you look upset?

Lilly: We have shared so much here and Violet has become really close to Simon.

Oscar: But that is good isn’t it?

Lilly: The transport back to your realm is likely to remove your memories of this place and as I am here that will include me. It will be like we never met.

Oscar: I don’t want to lose you Lilly but I must go.

Lilly: I know. I love you Oscar.

Oscar: I love you too Lilly.
